ACR-select
With the overwhelming, time-consuming aspects of ordering and preautherization activities related to medical imaging, we are sympathetic to our medical colleagues desire to simplify and streamline this process. As such, we strongly support the use of a program developed and licensed by the American College of Radiology, termed ACR Select™. This is a comprehensive clinical decision support database based on the ACR Appropriateness Criteria® (ACR AC), which provides evidence-based guidance for the appropriate utilization of diagnostic medical imaging procedures. This product is the digitally consumable version of the ACR Appropriateness Criteria®, incorporated into computerized ordering and EHR systems, which guides providers when ordering medical imaging scans. ACR Select can be integrated with a wide variety of solutions for payers and providers for streamlined work-flow at the point-of-care. While this product is not available currently, we are hopeful it will be purchased and instituted soon.
ACR appropriateness criteria
The ACR Appropriateness Criteria® (AC) are evidence-based guidelines to assist referring physicians and other providers in making the most appropriate imaging or treatment decision for a specific clinical condition. Employing these guidelines helps providers enhance quality of care and contribute to the most efficacious use of radiology. More than 200 volunteer physicians — including representatives from 20 medical specialty organizations — participate in the ACR AC expert panels, developing and updating these transparent guidelines. As a recognized national source for appropriate imaging, the ACR AC is available for review and research by all interested individuals. radiologist oversight
Imaging protocols are reviewed and customized to in order to provide all information necessary to answer the questions of clinical concern. We are available throughout the day to review imaging requests and help determine not only if an examination is appropriate, but also to help determine if an alternate exam such as ultrasound or MRI can be used, in order to prevent any unnecessary radiation exposure.
